Historic Environment

Another area of work of the practice relates to the exceptional experience with “enabling developments”.  This work is usually within the context of the restoration of Listed Buildings.  At Great Posbrook Farm, ten new dwellings in the form of new build and the conversion of existing farm buildings were permitted to fund the restoration of the Grade 2* sixteenth century Barn.  At Cadlington House, the conversion of the Grade 2 House into three dwellings and the development of four new dwellings was permitted to facilitate the restoration of the House.  Previous enabling developments included schemes at Landford Manor and Farringdon.  In the latter case, the concept of ‘enabling development’ was applied to facilitate a scheme where 12 existing affordable houses had been flooded.  The development of 24 dwellings in the countryside to facilitate their replacement was agreed on appeal.
