Brief Introduction
Bryan holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Geography and the Diploma in Town and Country Planning from the University of Newcastle-upon- Tyne; he is a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 1972 and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 1989. In January 1985, he established the practice which is based in Titchfield near Fareham, Hampshire.
In 2000 he was awarded the Queen Mother’s Birthday Award for his contribution to the assessment of Sustainability Projects undertaken by the Tidy Britain Group.
In 2005 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
CV
Bryan holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Geography (2.1) in 1968 from the University of Hull and the Diploma in Town and Country Planning from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1971; he was elected as a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1972 and he became a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1989.
His first planning appointment was with Wigan County Borough in 1969 and in 1970 he worked for highway engineering company based near Harrisburg in Pennsylvania, USA.
He has worked in South Hampshire since 1971 commencing with Portsmouth City Council where he worked primarily upon Local Plans. From 1974 until 1981, he worked for Fareham Borough Council Planning Department. Initially, he was head of the Local Plans Section and subsequently, he led the team responsible for the implementation of the Western Wards Action Area Plan which involved the development of 5000 dwellings and a District Centre and associated developments. From 1981 to 1984, he worked with the Chief Valuer as a Surveyor in the Department of Finance of Fareham Borough Council during which time he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor.
In January 1985, he established the practice which is based in Titchfield near Fareham, Hampshire. The practice undertakes a very wide variety of commissions throughout South East England.
He trained in the General Practice Division of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is now a Member of the Planning and Development Division.
He acted as Chairman of the Millennium Marque which is part of the Tidy Britain Group (formerly Keep Britain Tidy) from 1995-2000. The Marque was awarded to projects distinguished by their quality and sustainability. In 2000 he received the Queen Mother’s Birthday Award for this voluntary work. The Award was presented by Princess Alexandra on behalf of the Queen Mother.
He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2005. As a fellow, Bryan has organised a Seminar on the subject of “Death and Dying” and he is currently promoting a seminar on “Sustainable Development” for September 2009.
Hull University Expedition to Iran
Team Leader, Hull University Expedition to Iran (and Iraq) 1968. The multi-disciplinary team of seven graduates studied a remote village in the Kurdish area of the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The team travelled in a three ton ex-army truck overland through Turkey visiting Tehran, Persepolis, Isfahan and Shiraz in Iran and Basra and Baghdad in Iraq.

Part-time Lecturer in Town Planning, in respect of an MSc in Transport, Civil Engineering Department, Portsmouth Polytechnic 1972-1982.
Committee Member, Planning and Development Division, Wessex Branch, RICS 1986-2000. He was Chairman of the Wessex Branch of the Institution 1990/91.
Chairman, Planning and Development Division, Wessex Branch, RICS 1987-89; Public Relations Officer, Wessex Branch RICS 1991-93. Treasurer, Planning and Development Division, Wessex Branch RICS 1993-2000.
Member, Communications and Public Relations, Planning and Development and Division RICS 1987 – 1990 (organised Conferences ie Ocean Village, Southampton and a two day Conference on the Channel Tunnel including a visit to Sangatte in France);
Committee Member, Southern Branch, Royal Town Planning Institute 1994-2007.
Editor of South Talk (from January 2003 – 2007) which was the official newsletter of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Editor, South Talk, Southern Branch RTPI Magazine;
Committee Member of the Titchfield Village Trust.
Current Positions
He is a former Trustee and a current Emeritus Trustee of the Rowans Hospice (Purbrook). He has held these positions since 2005.
Articles and Editorial
Bryan has contributed to a range of publications including articles in the RICS on the Channel Tunnel (1990) and a visit to Cherbourg (2003).
Contributions to South Talk included articles on planning matters such as Rural Development and Design and a visit to Japan and an obituary on Roger Franklin a former colleague at Portsmouth City Council which included unfortunate narrative on the murder of his wife in the United States.
