Planning permission has been secured for the erection of a replacement summerhouse within the grounds of a Grade II listed cottage property in the Winchester countryside. The new summerhouse would serve as an office, gym and Jacuzzi.
Despite the proximity of the existing structure to the cottage, BJC Ltd was able to achieve permission for a new structure that would be greater in size than the one it replaces. The presence of a significant agricultural barn on adjoining land already had a ‘marring’ effect on the setting of the listed cottage, and the Council Officers could not object to the principle of the replacing the old summerhouse, which had exceeded its useful life.
The Council Officers supported the final design of the cabin, which they considered would relate positively to its proximity to the listed building in terms of scale, height, massing, alignment and materials.
