Sherborne House
Sherborne House and Darlington House are situated in the residential area of South View, Basingstoke. Sherborne House is a Victorian building, which in 1988 was modified by the NHS to provide services for seven people who had learning disabilities. The development of the site needed to address a number of issues. This included the retention of a locally listed building and its setting, access issues, respect of mature trees on the site, ecological issues and provision of specialist accommodation for those with learning difficulties. BJC were charged with obtaining best value for the NHS in developing a redevelopment scheme for the site. Working with a number of consultants a scheme was developed which included:- The conversion of Sherborne house to 7 apartments- Developing a new facility for the provision of specialist accommodation and- 24 new apartments on the open areas of the site.Outline planning permission was obtained for all of these proposals, enabling the site to be marketed and sold within the NHS Trust’s timescales and budget.BJC were particularly pleased when reserved matters were submitted and approved following their work on the outline proposal. The scheme is now built and reflects the principles achieved by BJC.
