BJC Corporate Responsibility

At BJC we are committed to corporate social responsibility in the operation of our business.  This requires us to consider the operation of the business in its widest sense in terms of the impact that it may have upon others.  This necessitates thinking about environmental and ethical impacts that we may have on others.

As town planners we are especially conscious of the need for sustainable development.  This is an important part of the work we undertake for our clients on a daily basis.

We seek not only to encourage responsible environmentally sensitive approaches in planning matters but we also seek to practice a responsible and sustainable approach to running the business.

We can define our responsibilities in terms of the business in the following way:

Professional advice
Sustainable practice is a major consideration in all planning issues and a constant consideration in our professional advice.

Clients
We encourage our clients to make sustainable choices wherever possible.

Suppliers, partners and fellow professionals
We seek to work with teams who share our ethos.

Employees
We encourage employees to be environmentally aware and to operate in a sustainable and environmentally efficient manner.

Work practices
We embrace the use of modern technology to minimise waste and to complete our work efficiently and with minimal impact upon the environment.

Business Growth
We seek to develop the business in a manner which is sustainably responsible and ethically sound

Environment

Waste
We seek year on year to reduce the amount of waste paper that we generate.  We embrace modern technology as a means of reducing our demands for papers and ink.

Where we cannot avoid the generation of waste we seek to recycle the waste as efficiently as possible.

Carbon
BJC seeks to reduce its carbon levels by maximising use of information technology for exchanging information.  We have qualified for the Planning Portal Low Carbon Pledge badge.

Energy
The company uses off peak electricity for heating, low energy light fitments and uses the energy saving standby features on computers and printers.

Ethics

Clients
We seek to ensure good relations with our clients through clear communication of our proposed actions of their behalf.

Employees
A happy workforce is a pre-requisite to a positive working environment and we seek to support individual needs where we can.

Community
We seek to support charitable causes in a variety of ways in the course of a year through sponsorship, attending charitable events, purchases from suppliers who support charities, support for a local hospice, support for Royal Society of Arts events.

Training and advancement
Staff are encouraged undertake training and advancement.  In some cases this is part of CPD requirements of our professional bodies.  In other cases the training is part of personal advancement plans, including day release for professional qualification and sponsorship of training and higher education.
